The Second Rule of Biblical Wealth

1 Kings 3:1-9

We invite you to join us for worship each Sunday morning at 9:30. You can download our service on iTunes or tune in for “The Good Word” each day on AM 1230 WSAL or on Hoosier Country  103.7 FM just after 8am. Think about this question: do your children see their future wealth as a continuation of your legacy as a person of God? Most everyone even remotely familiar with Scripture knows something about Solomon. If we look carefully we can see he gives some principles of becoming wealthy God’s way. Let’s look at

    1. SOLOMON’S CONDITIONING! In this passage we see every Godly parent’s, grandparent’s, dream. More than anything such people want their children to live for, and walk with God when the parents aren’t there t make them! Solomon was conditioned by David to walk with the Lord as a way of life. If your child was 18 (about Solomon’s age at this time) would they ask God for wisdom and a heart to follow Him? The answer to that depends largely on what you are doing NOW to teach them to do so. Was everything peachy-keen between David and Solomon and The Lord all the time? Of course not! Solomon saw David struggle from time to time. It is okay if your children see you struggle because it teaches them the truth that Godly living isn’t easy! If you don’t teach them to be persistent in their walk with the Lord, chances are, they won’t learn it! Let’s consider
    2. SOLOMON’S COMMITMENT TO THE COVENANT! Solomon gives us at least three keys to Biblical wealth. First, Solomon recognizes God’s sovereign direction in his life. If you are going to walk with God, you must first know He is in absolute control of everything about you! The more you conform to His Word, the more you see Him working in your life. Second, Solomon recognized his own insufficiencies. Here is an interesting reality; the more you understand truth #1, the more you realize truth of #2. Solomon was willing to admit he didn’t know it all, so he humbled himself before the Lord. Third, he recognized the seriousness of his responsibility. Here is a modern day connection; every man who is a husband, father, or grandfather is in the same position as Solomon. You are the head of your family, which makes you responsible to teach and lead them so they desire to follow the Lord and grow spiritually. Read 1 Peter 2:9 andthen read Ephesians chapters 5, 6 which tells men exactly that! Solomon asked for a discerning heart to govern. Now consider
    3. GOD’S COVENANT WITH SOLOMON! One of the most comforting things a person can know is that God is pleased with them. God answered Solomon’s request as God always does, meaning God answered abundantly. Solomon would not only be wise, he would be the wisest man ever to live, save Christ! Solomon asked God for what he needed, and God also gave him what most men desire, i.e. wealth and honor. If you are looking for true Biblical wealth, follow Solomon’s example asking God for wisdom to follow Him wherever He leads. You will be wealthier than you can imagine!
