Spiritual and Moral Purity of Our Children (Part 1)

Nehemiah 10:28-30

(Sincere apologies, we were unable to capture the audio from this sermon.)

We invite you to join us for worship each Sunday morning at 9:30. It’s a well known fact that if you want to destroy a nation, race, or society you destroy the family. Our enemy the Devil, certainly has a handle on that. As fundamental Christians we cannot continue the current philosophy that because our children are exposed to Christianity, they will automatically adopt and follow it all their lives. In this portion of Scripture God uses some strong language that we must heed or risk losing our children to the enemy! Notice in order to train our children as God wants we must

  1. SET OUR POSITION. Most people are familiar with the account of Col. Wm. Barrett drawing a line in the sand at the Alamo and challenging the men to step across the line to defend and defend to the death the Alamo. The rest of the story is history. As Christians, and especially as Christian men, we must take a position that is absolutely uncompromising in our stand for Christ. Our focus is to develop families that obey God! Every husband, father, and grandfather must make the decision to claim or reclaim his family for the Lord God Almighty. We can’t continue to “hope” our children take a stand for Christ! We must teach them by showing them. How do we do that?
  2. STOP PROCRASTINATING. If we are going to change anything, we must first DO something. Last week we talked about a binding agreement with God. That agreement became reality only when the people actually did something. Was gonna, am gonna, I want to, but, when I get around to it… or what we call good intentions never did anything. They are just excuses for what we call procrastination, and the Devil calls victory for him! Dr. Tony Evans says, “you can’t change your past, but you can make choices for your future.” Some of those choices have to be made every day, and sometimes many times each day. Read Ps. 1:1 and then admit to yourself that you really are in one of those three places. If we want to claim or reclaim our families for Christ we must as Christian men
  3. START PARTICIPATING. Read John 16 and notice that The Holy Spirit convicts us of sin in our life. Now read Ps. 112:1,2. It is mandatory for us as men to delight in God’s commands so our children will be mighty. In order to do that we must stop our current attitude of complacency and start delighting in the law of the Lord. It is not easy to do that because we as men, must first admit we are wrong! Some men who claim to be Christians fight harder at not growing spiritually than they do anything else! The truth is if you can find one instance in your life where God has changed you from what you were, into what you are, then you have all the reason, all the information, and yes even all the ability you need to let God change you in all areas of your life. The catch is, you must allow God to change you HIS way, no matter what! You cannot come to God with terms you devise and expect Him to bless you. Get on your knees and tell God you mean business with Him, then spend time everyday in Proverbs, and Psalms, then the Gospels letting God change you into the man He has planned for you to be.
